A consultancy with a thesis.
MetaCoding Solutions LLC is small by design: one founder, a bench of open-source projects, and a single idea applied wherever it fits.
The thesis
Data is the center of the universe; applications are ephemeral. That line is from the Data-Centric Manifesto, and it is the one commitment every piece of MetaCoding work shares. A system built from the model outward survives its own applications: the model is the asset, the rest is a view that can be replaced without losing anything.
In practice that means we reach for RDF, SHACL and graph databases where most teams reach for another ORM, and we spend the first weeks of an engagement on the model rather than the screens. It is slower for a fortnight and faster for a decade.
Who is behind it
James founded MetaCoding Solutions to do backend and data work the data-centric way: semantic web and RDF, graph databases, and the automation that keeps the data moving. The projects on this site are the same ideas worked out in public. SemanticSeams applies the thesis to software design itself, with one RDF graph as the source of truth and every architecture, interaction, process and decision diagram a view over it. regulator applies it to autonomous agents: a control plane that is a declared, versioned, checked definition, and a running system that is a projection of it. The Viable Agents course teaches the second of those, and the writing and the Esoteric AI newsletter carry the ideas that don't fit in a repository.
How we work
- Open source first. The tools we recommend are the tools we publish. You can read the code before you hire us, and you keep it after.
- The model before the screens. We would rather spend the first weeks on a data model you will keep than on an application you will throw away.
- Mechanism over advice. Where a rule can be a type, a check or a gate, it is. Prompts and documents advise; they are never the only place a rule lives.
- Plain answers. If the approach does not fit your problem, we say so on the first call.
